The 2019 Veloster is all new with an updated grille, two new engine choices, a revamped and more refined interior, and improved technology and safety features. It comes in five trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate. Standard equipment on the base model includes Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition, Infinity premium audio with eight speakers and a 7-inch color touchscreen, and a rearview camera. The 2.0 Premium adds leather bolsters to the cloth seats, plus a larger (8-inch) audio system display, wireless device charging, a wide sunroof, a proximity key with push-button start, heated front seats, and the Blue Link package of services. The 2.0, Turbo R-Spec, and Turbo Ultimate can all be ordered with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 2.0 Premium comes equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Buyers of the Turbo Ultimate can opt for a 7-speed Ecoshift Dual Clutch transmission with paddle shifters instead of the stick.

The new 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine in the non-Turbo trims makes 147 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 132 lb.-ft of torque. The Turbo Velosters all have a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter turbo GDI engine that makes 201 hp at 6000 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque. The sports car-like features of these three trim levels consist of a firmer sport-tuned suspension for enhanced handling on turns, center-mounted dual exhaust, LED headlights and taillights, and alloy pedals (including the dead pedal). The steering wheel is also wrapped in leather. The R-Spec receives upgraded Michelin summer tires, and its cloth interior is upgraded to leather on the two higher Turbo trims. All Veloster trims have a rear diffuser for a sporty look and enhanced aerodynamics.

Safety & Technology

Every 2019 Veloster is equipped with an excellent array of active safety features, including a rearview camera, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, electronic stability control, and traction control. These features combine with passive safety features - front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, bodyside reinforcements, and more.

Today's car buyers are looking for as many technological features as possible so that they can stay connected while on the road. Hyundai has come through by including touchscreen audio and instrument panel displays, Bluetooth capability with voice recognition, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment. The 2.0 Premium trim is tricked out with blind-spot monitoring, keyless entry and ignition, and an eight-speaker Infinity audio system. The 2.0 Premium and the Turbo Ultimate feature a wireless charging pad.

Passenger Comfort & Cargo

This new incarnation of Veloster offers 4.4 cubic feet more of storage space, with cargo easily loaded via the rear hatch. Hyundai has kept the unusual design of one door on the driver's side and two doors on the passenger side, giving the car a coupe look from the left and a sedan look (and ease of entry for passengers) from the right. The new interior is nicely appointed with improved fit and finish all around, available heated seats, and leather upholstery. Road noise has been reduced from the previous generation, and thanks to relocated hatch hinges on this redesign, there's now a little more headroom.
