The Hyundai Santa Fe is back for its fourth generation with an improved interior and more technology features than ever, as well as somewhat of a new identity. Now, this might be a little confusing: The 2019 Santa Fe replaces the Santa Fe Sport, as it had previously been known. It's the smaller (5.3 inches shorter overall) five-passenger sibling to the newly named seven-passenger Santa Fe XL, which was called the Santa Fe for the 2018 model year. Got it?

Santa Fe Trims

This redesigned crossover comes in seven trim levels: the SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited, Limited 2.0, Ultimate, and Ultimate 2.0T. Base MSRPs range from $25,500 for the front-wheel drive version of the SE to $38,800 for the all-wheel-drive version of the Ultimate 2.0T. Standard equipment on all Santa Fe trims includes power lumbar support for the driver, a 7-inch display audio system, high beam assist, and an 8-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC. The FWD models achieve fuel economy of 22 city/29 highway/25 combined, while the AWD models get 21 city/27 highway/23 combined, except for the trims powered by the 235-hp 4-cylinder turbo engine, the Limited 2.0T and Ultimate 2.0T, which achieve 20/25/22 for FWD and 19/24/21 for AWD.

Safety & Technology

Hyundai has elevated the popular Santa Fe with additional technology and connectivity features to please the modern crossover buyer and their passengers. Some of the standard-feature highlights on all trim levels are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual front and rear USB outlets, and steering wheel-mounted controls for the audio system, Bluetooth, and cruise. Trims from the SEL Plus upward receive a hands-free smart liftgate and a 12-speaker Infinity premium audio system with Quantum Logic Surround; the Ultimate trims get a navigation system with an 8-inch touchscreen and wireless charging station as standard equipment.

Loaded with active and passive safety features, the redesigned Santa Fe is the safest yet. These include a rear-view monitor with parking guidance feature, vehicle stability management, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention warning, and a full array of airbags, crumple zones, and bodyside reinforcements. All but the base model come equipped with heated side mirrors and fog lights for the best visibility in the worst weather.

Passenger Comfort & Cargo

While all 2019 Santa Fe models come with air conditioning, the trims from SEL Plus upward are upgraded to dual front automatic temperature control with CleanAir Ionizer; the Ultimate trims keep the driver's hands warm in winter with a heated steering wheel. The five passengers will enjoy ample space for themselves as well as their stuff, especially since the second row has 1.5 more inches of legroom than the last generation. The lowered dash in this new edition also provides a more spacious feel.
