Check Out Our New Hyundai Genesis Inventory in NH!
Hyundai's Genesis full-size sedan aims at established luxury cars like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class with its rear-wheel-drive layout, available V-8 power, and upscale features. For 2011, the V-8 engine standard in the Genesis 4.6 gains 10 horsepower to 385, and last year's optional Technology Package is now standard on the Genesis 4.6. Features now standard on the 4.6 as a result are the navigation system, a 17-speaker surround sound audio system, adaptive high-intensity-discharge headlights, and a backup camera. The Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan offers lots of features for the dollar. When it comes to sports sedan credentials, the Genesis is surprisingly capable. With a smooth ride, lots of interior room, and willing power, the Genesis is a viable alternative to established luxury brands. Genesis customers can choose between the capable 3.8 model that provides more nimble handling and better fuel economy or a quicker 4.6 model with more luxury and a higher price. Both Genesis models provide great value for the money. The cars have fine performing, comfortable rides and power with a roomy interior.
Genesis buyers have the choice of a V-6 or V-8 engine. The Genesis is rear-wheel drive. Regular gas is recommended for the V-6, but premium is recommended for the V-8. Both engines use a six-speed automatic transmission. The V8 is substantially quicker than the V6. It has plenty of power from a stop, in the midrange, and at highway speeds for passing. Hyundai quotes a 5.7-second 0-60 mph time. The V8 is EPA-rated at 17/25 mpg City/Highway, which isn't much of a fuel economy penalty given the extra power. Each engine is mated to a different six-speed automatic transmission. Both are responsive, shifting quickly and smoothly. Both also have Hyundai's Shiftronic manual shift gate. The Genesis is equipped with Amplitude Selective Dampers, which are basically two shocks in one. These shocks have one mode for small, high-frequency bumps and ripples and another mode for larger motions. Hyundai says they improve ride comfort, optimize road surface contact, and increase body and wheel control.
The 2011 Genesis looks upscale, if a bit conservative. The headlights are angular, like Lexus', and when viewed from the side, the sedan brings to mind the Infiniti M and BMW 5 Series. The front grille looks like a Mercedes and features a lower fascia, eye-slit, halogen headlights, 17-inch wheels standard with 18-inch wheels optional.
Over 100 sound dampening innovations make the Genesis interior among the quietest you may have experienced. Acoustic window lamination cuts exterior noise. Whisper valves muffle the muffler. Reshaped links in the steel timing chain mean a quieter engine. An underbody panel minimizes the sound of wind rushing under the car and reduces road noise. The Genesis has orchestra-style seating, placing rear passengers slightly higher than the front row, with a great view and more room to stretch out. Get in the driver seat and you'll find everything within arm's reach. Large windows maximize visibility in all directions. Switches and buttons are placed close to minimize fumbling. The center LCD screen gives you all the information you need in one glance, from route guidance and traffic to trip information and your favorite radio stations. The influence of the luxury segment can be seen in the design of the Genesis' cabin. The middle of the dash bulges outward like the one on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Hyundai has picked up on the German luxury brands' fascination with integrated control knobs with a system that's used to operate the available navigation system, among other things. Front and rear head and leg room are plentiful.
The 2011 Hyundai Genesis is offered in two models. The Genesis 3.8 features dual-zone automatic climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, tilt/telescoping, cruise control, heated front seats, four-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated power mirrors, remote keyless access, power windows and door locks, fog lights, automatic headlights, theft-deterrent system, and alloy wheels.
The Genesis 4.6 features a leather-wrapped dash and door trim, power tilt/telescoping wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel, memory for the driver's seat, mirrors and steering wheel; sunroof; Lexicon 14-speaker audio system with six-disc CD changer; rain-sensing wipers; power rear sunshade; auto-dimming exterior mirrors; and P235/50R18 tires. The only option is the Technology Package.

Advanced crumple zones absorb and redirect forces away from the passenger cabin area. 8 airbags, including dual front-advanced and roof-mounted curtain side impact bags. Then for good measure, electronic active front head restraints help protect against whiplash in a rear collision.
