Full Review 2010

The Hyundai Accent is not only practical, but it comes with a bevy of features, and provides a comfortable ride. The Accent also provides more interior room than many of its competitors, including other compact cars such as the Corolla.

Another area where the Accent comes out on top is power. The refined 1.6-liter engine delivers more power than its competitors-thanks to the double overhead-cam engine with variable valve timing.

The Accent is much more green than its predecessors, offering 33 miles per gallon and is also an  Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle. According to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, the Accent is one of the greenest cars you can purchase.

Besides being one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles, it's also one of the safest. Among its many safety features you'll find front airbags, seat-mounted side-impact airbags and also side-curtain airbags, antilock brakes are optional on the sedan and SE coupe.

Hyundai last redesigned the Accent sedan for 2006, and released the latest coupe that spring. While the sedan brings some suave to the entry-level family segment, the coupe is clearly seeking street cred, offering hip accessories ranging from a strut-tower brace to faux carbon-fiber trim.

Practicality is what buyers in this car segment expect , not excitement. But the 2010 Hyundai Accent is a fun, even enjoyable car to drive. The zippy acceleration is delivered, surprisingly, from a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine yielding 110 horsepower. The 2010 Hyundai Accent has earned kudos for its low price and pleasant driving experience.

Exterior Styling and Options

Buyers can select the 2010 Hyundai Accent in either a sedan - available in a GLS model only or two-door hatchback available in the Blue, GS and SE trim levels.

The Blue two-door hatchback features a six-way-adjustable driver seat, 14-inch steel wheels, and  reclining 60/40-split rear seat with optional air-conditioning. The GS trim level  features body-colored outside mirrors and door handles, air-conditioning, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, a rear wiper with washer, and a remote hood release.

The SE hatchback adds all the GS's optional equipment as standard and features a sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and foglamps. The 2010 Hyundai Accent comes with front-wheel drive and offers a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that yields 110 horsepower and 106 pound feet of torque. A four-speed automatic is optional on all but the Blue trim level while all models come standard with a five-speed manual transmission. In the manual transmission drivers can expect to go from zero to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds.

Fuel ratings for the Accent Blue are also pretty decent, getting 27 miles per gallon city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway.

Interior Features and Safety

Safety for the 2010 Hyundai Accent is impressive, full-length head curtain airbags and front-seat side impact airbags. Antilock brakes are standard on SE hatchbacks and optional on GS hatchbacks and GLS sedans.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, rated the Acceptable, which is the second highest rating.

Seat and interior materials aren't quite up to snuff, at least in comparison with other models.

The rear seats are comfortable and give passengers plenty of room.

First Drive 2010 Accent

Even though there are only 110 horses pulling the car, you wouldn't know it by driving it. it boasts good acceleration and a good ride. Outside noise isn't a problem either, it's a class leader in eliminating exterior noise. The 2010 Hyundai Accent is a good overall value for the money.

Conclusions

The enjoyable and value-packed 2010 Hyundai Accent proves that an entry-level economy car needn't be a penalty box. With supportive seats, peppy acceleration with manual transmission, unusually satisfying stereo for this segment, relatively quiet cabin, impressive warranty coverage. It's about time the compact car could be this much fun, test drive one today to see for yourself!
