Summary

Hyundai is constantly pushing up against the limits of delivering a cost-effective vehicle and one that offers lots of features. They've done it again with the 2008 Veracruz. Mid-size SUV competitors should be wary of this offering because it could become the number one choice of consumers.

Full Review 2008 Veracruz

Put together with consideration, the Veracruz offers buyers the choice of front wheel or all-wheel drive. Upscale features and seating for seven are just two of the reasons that Veracruz scores big. Buyers are sure to love the long list of standard features, even on the base model. And safety equipment abounds.

2008 Veracruz Trims and Styling

The 2008 Hyundai Veracruz comes in three trim levels: the GLS, SE and Limited. The GLS features  cruise control, air conditioning, tilt-and telescoping steering wheel with cruise control and mounted audio controls, 17-inch tires on aluminum alloy wheels, a 60/40-split flip-and-fold second row, front bucket seats with passenger side fold flat capability, and 50/50-split, fold-into-floor third row seat.

Add the Premium package and you get a backup warning system, heated front seats, a power tilt-and-slide sunroof, and eight-way power driver's seat.

The SE comes with automatic headlights, roof rack side rails, fog lights, 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, auto-dimming inside and outside rearview mirrors, cooled front center console storage bins and power driver's seat. The Premium and Leather package adds a power liftgate, leather, a sunroof, heated front seats, premium audio system, backup warning system, and a 115-volt power outlet. Get the Entertainment package and add to that an eight-inch LCD monitor for the rear seat entertainment system and a conversation mirror.

The Limited trim level features a dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof, windshield wiper de-icer, power adjustable pedals, rain-sensing wipers, lighted door scuff plates, leather, power liftgate, heated front seats, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and driver seat memory settings. Get the Rear-Seat Entertainment package or the Navigation package for even more features.

2008 Veracruz Interior Features

Inside the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz is a classic beauty, not overly made up, not demanding the center of attention but rather, once focused, you realize its graceful lines and understated elegance. Seating is comfortable and provides enough room for a taller person to still feel relaxed. The second row seat is equally comfortable - if you don't have three people sitting across - then it becomes a bit cramped, but still workable. The third row seats are the roomiest in the mid size market. The Veracruz also offers lots of space for handy storage.

First Drive 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

The Veracruz drives more like a luxury model than the affordable mid-size SUV that it is. Additionally, it provides a smooth shifting transmission and gentle ride.

2008 Conclusions

The 2008 Hyundai Veracruz is a step up for Hyundai and they've managed to make the leap from economy class to mid-size front runner. "If you want a loaded-up, smooth-riding midsize family SUV, it's hard to find one at a better price than the Veracruz." says BusinessWeek.
